CLASS OF 1970 - THE BEST!

Class of 70 Alumni:

The most important part of Reunited 2005 is that we will be celebrating our 35th reunion with the classes of 69,71 and 72.   Our ticket sales are going great, topping the other 3 classes!  If you have not purchased your tickets yet, you won't want to miss this big event.  The Class of 1970 certainly left their mark on JMHS, everyone still talks about how we were the best graduating class ever to leave JMHS.   How true, don't you think so???

I agree with Debbie's assessment and here are just a few reasons why:

1.  Carol Perkins, our valedictorian, has degrees from I.U. and Purdue.  She is the smartest and wisest valedictorian in the history of Marshall High School.

2.  Larry Bullington is John Marshall High School's most famous alumnus.  If you don't believe me, just tell someone (outside of Marshall) you went to Marshall in the late 60's/early 70's and most will say:  "BULLINGTON!"  "WHAT A HELL OF A PLAYER THAT GUY WAS!"

3.  Jim Worstell, Chuck Hawkins, Steve Shinkle, Danny Snyder, Jeff Craver, Dennis Kelle, David Lewchanin, Bill Volk, Freddy Hayes, Dennis Niggel,  Wes Hansen, Bob Hall, Jimmy Pointer, etc.  were the best football teammates in Marshall History.

4.  Jerry Wootan, Jim Hutchcraft, Bobby Donselaar, and Pat Bolner had more fun than anybody in Marshall History.

5.  We had the best looking girls in Marshall history.  Go back and look at the yearbooks!  All the guys in the class of 69 wanted a 70 girl.  The guys in 71 and 72 tried hard to have a 70 girl.

6. Gary Bryant, Brad Goffinet, Mike Touchette, Mike Gentry, Pat McCreary, Don Mason, Dan McFarland, Joel Wootan, Chuck Brewer, Bill Fox, Jon Teater, Royce Forman, Moose Coles, Jimmy Skaggs, Ed Mason, Dan Larrabee, Tom Podgorski, Steve Higgs, Bill Reckert, Tim Muffler, Steve Carmichael, Bob Tremain, and Gary Below wish that they were in the class of 70.

7.  Chuck Hawkins was the most successful, career pitcher in Marshall High School baseball history.  That's says alot considering the greatness of guys like Mason, Goffinet, Crabtree, Kantner, Lynch, Hosbein, Bryant, Wampler, Featheringill, Henry, and many more.

8.  Yvonne is considered the best looking of the beautiful Schaaf sisters.  We "hate" you Shinkle, but it is only fitting that you too, are from the class of 70.

9. If Marshall would have had girls sports back then, we would have beat the daylights out of and had more success than any other class---Carol Fox, Barb Priest, Cheryl Fitch, Steff Farrell, Rita Eckert, Carol Perkins, Debbie Welsh, Sue Ann Larrabee, Leesa Wickham, Connie Davison, Rita Piccone, Mary Jane Arthur, ---the list goes on and on!  I know I left a bunch of good one's off this list.

10.  We had the best Theater productions and music groups of all the classes.  Rick Harris, Carol Perkins, Steff Farrell, Nancy Chafee, Hans  ?????? (from Germany), Marsha Cross, Jim Worstell, etc, etc, ect....

And the best reason is:   the CLASS OF 70 loves and cares about each other more than the other classes do.   No class committee can touch the triad of Debbie Welsh Ford, Monika Walraven Noel, and Vicki Stephens for hard work, perserverance, and dedication.

I invite my classmates to add to this list of reasons why the class of 70 it on top.

I wish I could top that, but---well---I guess---well maybe--you are right.-----Jim Skaggs---class of 1969.  Holdup,, Kathy Brody was good looking and so was Annette---well---I forgot about Yvonne--but Linda and ah ---well--ah--Debbie Mills and Kathy Kidd----Hey what about Glenda Lindsay, oh never mind, she was from the class of 70.  Oh, what the Hell, the class of 70 was hard to beat.

We too will have to agree with some if not most of what you say except for #5. The boys in the classes of 69, 71, 72 didn't try hard to have one of the girls from the class of 70. Heck, we all had girls from the class of 70. That's one of the things that made them the best class, they were easy! With Fond Memories, The Guys from the classes of 69,71,72

I think the first two years of Marshall High School's existence were the best.  Therefore, I would rate the classes of 1969, 1970, and 1971 the best because they were there the first two years.  The class of 1972 was very good, also.  The class of 69 had the best leadership, the class of 70 had the best followers, and the class of 71 had the most idiots.  The class of 72 had more good looking people, but they lacked discipline.

The class of 1972 has more viewers of THE JERRY SPRINGER SHOW than any of the first four classes from JMHS.  The classes that followed 72 broke all records for viewership.

Who are the greatest people named "Jerry" to come out of John Marshall High School?

THE ONLY JERRYS (JERRI)  I CAN THINK OF ARE:  GIMLICH, GOEBEL, GOOTEE, MILLER, NICCUM, AND WOOTAN.  BECAUSE WOOTAN WAS FROM THE CLASS OF 70, I WOULD SAY HE WAS THE MOST POPULAR.  THERE WEREN'T A LOT OF JERRYS BACK IN THOSE DAYS, BUT ALL OF THEM HAD CERTAIN GREAT QUALITIES.

The CLASS OF 69 was the most important class in the history of Indianapolis John Marshall High School.  As a whole, the percentage of success stories within that class was unbeatable by any other class.   The class of 1970 may well be the second best class, but not better than the class of 69.  The class of 1969 were the leaders in those first two great years.  If anyone from another class were able to go back in time and experience what it was like  back in 1967, 68, and 69; they  would have to, in all honesty, admit that  those people in the first graduating class were "the class of JMHS".  They ended the great decade of the sixties.  After that, it seems that all Hell broke lose and the world was never the same.  If I had to go back and experience any time period of the past, it would be the late sixties and it just so happens--we were in charge then!

Regarding the previous post:

If the Class of 1969 were the leaders during the first 2 years of existence, and there were SO MANY success stories why did you fail to mention at least one of them.  Please feel free to refresh our memories.  A previous user of this forum took the time to explain what made the class of 1970 the best and the greatest of all John Marshall graduating classes.  We believe for every success story you can post about the Class of 1969,  there will be someone out here from the Class of 1970 who could top each and every story you post.   Run for the "ole" yearbook now,   happy hunting!

We were all a family regardless of which year: Teater, Hicks, Paton, Skaggs, Podgorski, Myers, Yeskie, McKeeman, M. Miller, Webb, Paff, Goben, Bishop, R. Thompson, on and on.

You know, you are right.  We are family and it transcends all the classes.  It's hard to believe good ole John Marshall High School only had 18 graduating classes  (1969 through 19860.  That alone makes our school pretty unique!  Those first few classes really had a special bond and it showed at the big reunion in 2000.  I am looking forward to another big event July 30th, 2005.  I graduated in 1976 and feel as much a part of this event as anyone else.--------KSG

With all the girls at JMHS I thought I needed a plan, so I was going to start with the girls of 72 and work my way up. It was the same old story though too many beautiful girls and not enough time. I even tried flunking my senior year and the teachers kept giving me passing grades to get me out of there

Well now, let us not forget the class of '72 and the debacle of kicking off the main members of the track team their senior year because "they had long hair", and the balls it took to stand up for our rights. We had a team the previous year that took firsts and seconds in city and the only ones that beat us were seniors during our junior year. We had city wrapped up until a certain "coach" shined up his red neck and kicked us off the team for having "long hair". We would have taken it to the ACLU had it not been for the athletic director's son also being in the same group. Kind of funny when you look at today's athletes and their appearance. Ahh, the memories....

Is it possible this is from Coach Rogers? If so, where did we go in Ohio for a track meet?
